88 Avenue Corridor Slip Lanes Survey
Strong Towns Langley is conducting a community survey on intersections with slip lanes along and near 88 Avenue. This Survey is open until December 1st 2023.

We want to learn about your experience at these intersections with slip lanes and islands. Did you feel safe waiting on the island? Do you think the slip lanes are beneficial to the intersection or make it worse?

This survey is your chance to share your thoughts.
A slip lane is a turning lane added to an intersection to allow a vehicle to complete a right turn. Intersections with slip lanes typically have a island for people to use while they wait to cross the road.

Crossing 88 avenue at the SE island to 208 can be a little hazardous as cars do not slow down coming down 208 so it can feel a little dangerous
very busy for cars & people get overlooked
Too many speeding cars on 87th
I have almost been hit by cars coming down the hill on 208 and turning without checking for pedestrians. Cars never stop at the crosswalk and I've had to jumpnout of the way at least 7 times in my years walking here at night.
I’ve lived in this area for 14+ years and my kids walk to and from school using this intersection . I’ve never felt unsafe here, as a pedestrian or a driver.
Vehicles in slip lanes turning right do not look for pedestrians crossing
Slip lanes are a good idea where drivers have some understanding of right of way. Unfortunately most drivers don’t, which puts them, other drivers and pedestrians at risk.
I feel unsafe when crossing the slip lane on the SW corner because cars often enter too fast and don’t have enough room to slow down.
I have had to jump back out of the way from people coming fast down 208 North and heading right (east) onto 87th. I also live on that corner and have been almost hit (driving) numerous times trying to come out of our complex from again, people picking up speed down 208 and headng way too fast around the slip on the southeast corner of the intersection (I live in the sycamores). I have never had any issues with the other island/slips on the other corners of 87/208
Narrowed - the slip lanes would be better and safer if vehicles were required to slow down. Too frequently the driver is looking to their left (for oncoming traffic) and not looking for pedestrians. It feels very unsafe to cross.
Leave the slip lane
I’ve always worried that school kids or anyone on the island will be hit by someone going through a red or an accident from it
Skip lanes would be fine if drivers understood the concept of the right of way, but most don’t. Also, they endanger pedestrians and cyclists crossing the zebra stripes on the way to the island.
There should be protection installed to protect pedestrians from an accident while waiting on the island
Drivers drive through the slip.lane without looking for pedestrians
SW corner unsafe as cars coming downhill whip around the corner at unsafe speeds. Remove slip lane and add left turn lanes on 87 Ave
Thank you for asking!! Please put the crossing button bacyour at the sidewalk so kids and other pedestrians can wait safely. The island is very exposed. Drivers tend to drive right through the slip lane without checking for pedestrians. It feels very unsafe.
The slip lanes at 87th Ave and 208 st should be eliminated. This would prevent heavy traffic from short cutting through a small residential area.
Generally I like the slip lanes and islands however often they are too small (that is true at this intersection) and the traffic goes through them too quickly. This particular intersection has poor visibility for drivers travelling north on 208th who want to turn right onto 87th. I have witnessed many near misses here bc of high speed and poor visibility.
Slip lanes allow cars to go super quickly through an area with limitee visibility
I have almost been hit by cars at this intersection many times

As more and more cars are cutting up 206th coming along 87th to mostly head up 208th into Willoughby. Pretty soon it will be another 208th. There are alot of older people walking in this area and school age children walking back and forth to school.
