Public Awareness Coordinator

Volunteer Position Langley, BC Part-time, Flexible

Did you know many people don't even realize Langley has a Strong Towns group? Your job is to spread the word about Strong Towns Langley, grow our mailing list subscribers, find enthusiastic and passionate people for our WhatsApp and Discord, and "grow the movement" to help Strong Towns Langley become a stronger force in the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase public awareness
  • Grow our mailing list and social media following
  • Engage with community members on WhatsApp and Discord
  • Create content to promote Strong Towns principles
  • Coordinate with local media and community organizations
  • Track engagement metrics and report on growth
Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

Spokesperson

Volunteer Position Langley, BC Part-time, Event-based

Give in-person presentations and set up tables at community events and markets to talk about Strong Towns Langley and the difference we are trying to make in the community. Begin with one-on-one virtual training sessions with our board leadership to learn more about the specific issues facing Langley from a Strong Towns perspective and learn how to answer common questions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent Strong Towns Langley at community events and markets
  • Give presentations to community groups and organizations
  • Set up and manage information tables at public events
  • Answer questions from community members about Strong Towns principles
  • Distribute promotional materials and collect contact information
  • Report back on community feedback and engagement
Time Commitment: 2-4 events per month, 3-4 hours per event

Campaign Manager

Volunteer Leadership Position Langley, BC Part-time, Project-based

Head up targeted and specific campaigns for Strong Towns Langley. This is a complex and demanding role, but you will be granted full autonomy to lead a campaign with our support. Begin with one-on-one virtual training sessions with our board leadership to learn more about the specific issues facing Langley from a Strong Towns perspective.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive campaign strategies and timelines
  • Lead specific advocacy campaigns from conception to completion
  • Coordinate with volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders
  • Manage campaign budgets and resources
  • Organize events, meetings, and public actions
  • Communicate with media and government officials
  • Monitor campaign progress and adjust strategies as needed
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per week during active campaigns

Filmographer

Volunteer Position Langley, BC Part-time, Flexible

Go on location to film footage and B-roll used for our social media campaigns. Meet people in the community making a difference to record their insights and footage of what they are doing. Ability to interview, video editing and social media experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Film high-quality video content for social media campaigns
  • Conduct on-location interviews with community members
  • Capture B-roll footage of community events and locations
  • Edit raw footage into engaging social media content
  • Collaborate with the communications team on content strategy
  • Maintain and organize video archives
  • Stay updated on current video trends and best practices
Time Commitment: 8-16 hours filming and video editing per month

Meeting Organizer

Volunteer Position Langley, BC Part-time, Event-based

Help coordinate in-person public meetings for Strong Towns Langley. Must have lots of flexibility and availability to arrange and attend meetings at cafes, pubs, and public spaces, as well as suitably advertise and promote the meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research and book appropriate venues for public meetings
  • Coordinate meeting logistics including setup and cleanup
  • Create and distribute promotional materials for meetings
  • Manage RSVPs and attendance tracking
  • Ensure accessibility requirements are met at all venues
  • Coordinate with speakers and presenters
  • Follow up with attendees and collect feedback
Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week, more during event weeks

Anyone can contribute, join discussions, and attend events without becoming a member. However, if you'd like to financially support our work, vote on key decisions, or potentially serve in a leadership role on our board, you can become an official supporting member of our registered society.

As a member of the Langley Urbanist Society (which operates as Strong Towns Langley), you can:
