Join Strong Towns Langley

Become part of a community working to create a more resilient, walkable, and people-centered Langley. We're ordinary people with extraordinary vision.

A Community of Neighbours

We're everyday residents who love our community. We include parents, professionals, retirees, students, and local business owners with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

You don't need to be an expert—just bring your passion for making Langley better!

Open to Everyone

We welcome all who are interested in learning about and applying Strong Towns principles in Langley. Our meetings and events are inclusive spaces for everyone.

Whether you're curious about urban planning or a long-time advocate, there's a place for you here!

Volunteer-Driven

We're 100% volunteer-operated, with members contributing their time, ideas, and energy to create positive change in Langley.

Every contribution matters—whether it's attending meetings, helping with events, or sharing ideas!

Why We Do This

Safe & Accessible Streets

We advocate for streets that work for everyone—whether you're walking, cycling, using transit, or driving. Everyone deserves to move safely around their community.

Thriving Local Businesses

Walkable neighbourhoods support local businesses and create vibrant community centers where shops, cafes, and services can flourish.

Diverse Housing Options

We support a range of housing choices so that people of all ages, incomes, and life stages can find a place to call home in Langley.

Green & Public Spaces

Public parks, plazas, and green spaces are essential for community connection, recreation, and environmental health.

Financial Sustainability

Development patterns that generate more tax revenue than maintenance costs create financially resilient communities for the long term.

Community Connection

When neighbourhoods are designed for people, residents have more opportunities to meet, connect, and build relationships.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be an expert in urban planning to join?

Not at all! We welcome members from all backgrounds and knowledge levels. Many of our members started with just a curiosity about how to make their community better. We learn together and share resources to help everyone understand Strong Towns principles.

How much time commitment is expected?

There's no minimum time commitment required. You can participate at whatever level works for you—whether that's simply attending occasional meetings, joining online discussions, or taking a more active role in our initiatives. We appreciate any time and energy you're able to contribute!

What's the difference between joining the mailing list and becoming a member?

Joining our mailing list keeps you informed about our activities and events at no cost. Becoming a supporting member ($10/year) provides official membership in our registered British Columbia Society, the Langley Urbanist Society, which operates as Strong Towns Langley. This includes voting rights at general meetings and the ability to help shape our priorities. You'll also receive a welcome pack with stickers and gain access to exclusive member benefits.

I don't live in Langley. Can I still join?

Absolutely! While our focus is on improving Langley, we welcome supporters from neighbouring communities and beyond. The principles we advocate for apply to communities everywhere. If you're from another area, you might also want to check if there's a Strong Towns group near you.

How can I contribute beyond membership?

There are many ways to contribute! You can volunteer at events, share your skills (writing, graphic design, photography, etc.), lead a Jane's Walk, help with research, speak at meetings, or represent us at community events. We value all types of contributions and will help find ways for you to get involved that match your interests and abilities.
